Green Boa Constrictor

This series of photos is from the science museum in Denver.  These creepy crawlies were from the "Scalia" exhibit.  Scalia are snakes and lizards, or animals that have scales.  This is one of the green boa snakes.  I will be painting a series of these photos using watercolor.

Giant Slug

I have grown up seeing slugs that are about a half inch long. These slugs would hang out in my grandmas garden or in our front yard. The slugs in Washington, both by our house in the dessert, and in the rain forest are mammoth in comparison. This was taken in a small rain forest in Ocean Shores.

Spiders

I really like the black and white on the top image.
The shadow on the spider (in the bottom photograph) makes it extra scary to me.
These huge spiders were in the entrance way to a mens bathroom at the campground we stayed at. There were about 9 or 10 spiders in the doorway. I went to the bathroom around 2 in the morning and found these. That is when I decided to take some photographs. It was much more difficult than I expected. It may have been because it was the middle of the night.

They were all over the place. And this wasn't even low tide.

Beach # 4

This beach may have been my favorite. The tide pools were incredible. We were there around mid tide but it sounds like low tide would have been even better. I am not sure what these are but I do love their texture.

Seagulls

There are several beaches on the Pacific shore in WA. They all seem to have their specific traits. On the website it talked about how the landscape is not the same for more than 2 miles. This beach was just off of our campground. Its special characteristics were the amount of seagulls and sand dollars. One of the beaches in Ocean Shores is actually a state highway. It was neat being able to drive on the sand. You do have to be careful because of the tides.

Seattle vs Utah Jellies

For those of you who might be curious...the lower blob is a jellyfish. We saw about thirty of them when looking off the deck of the ferry on the way to Bainbridge. It was crazy to see real jellyfish that were not in a zoo. There were so many of them. Many just looked like blobs but some were clear.
I realize that this isn't my greatest photograph... ...So here is another image of jellies. This one is from the Salt Lake City Aquarium. I think I actually like the composition of this image more than the other one that was posted. I like that this image seems simpler.

Starfish

More wildlife of Bainbridge Island off of Seattle.
This is the first time that I can remember seeing live starfish not in an aquarium. Maybe in Florida when I was little but I doubt it.
Here is a close up.

Bainbridge Island

Over the weekend we took a trip to Seattle. More pictures will be coming soon.

We took a ride on the ferry to Bainbridge Island and walked around for a couple hours. Views of Seattle from the Ferry were great. I would recommend this adventure to anyone visiting Seattle. Also if you get a chance take a bike on the ferry or rent one on Bainbridge.
While walking around the island Jim heard a snake crawling around. At first he thought that it was struggling. The snake was doing fine, it was the snail that was in trouble.
We didn't think that the snake would be able to eat the snail. I think it took about 10 minutes. The snake gave up for a while but it returned to the challenge and conquered.
I don't think that I have ever seen a snake with the lump in its throat but here it is.
He looks happy, full and lump free.

Jellies

One of my favorite photographs. I love the way this image contrasts the black with the light up creature.

Spiney Star

Also in Salt Lake we went to the zoo. The colors of some of the underwater animals were captivating.
